Throughout this primary season I’ve only supported a few candidates, and never even considered supporting anyone else. Rick Perry and John Huntsman were those candidates, and I figured that there would not be a need for a backup plan; logic told me that we had two governors with very conservative records, why in the world would the Republican electorate even consider supporting Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, or Rick Santorum. Ron Paul has always been too far to the left on foreign policy to win the majority of the Republican electorate, and Michelle Bachmann had no real governing experience. I did sign up to Herman Cain’s website, but after doing some extensive research I realized he was the very insider like for being the only unelected candidate on running.

So why wouldn’t the GOP vote for one of two governors that had records that would have contrasted Obama in ways that none of the other candidates running could; to be honest I still do not agree with the answers to this question: Rick Perry had flubbed some early debates, and signed an instate tuition law that was supported by the Republican legislature in Texas, the same Texas who has been ordered by the Supreme Court to take care of these people while the Federal government does not deport them; and John Huntsman campaign team had decided not to focus on his conservative record and instead to focus on his Moderate temperament. To be honest, none of these flaws would have been as damaging to the Republican chances against Obama has the rest of the candidates running.

  I do not wish to sound like I am spilling sour milk, but since many of you have not ever read anything I’ve written, I thought it would be best to give a quick rundown of the 2011 version of myself. Ad nauseam, that is all that I had felt the day Rick Perry dropped out of this race the second time.

This left me with some very frustrating options. First, Mitt Romney is the establishment choice, and that alone almost makes me want to act like Ron Paul supporters, and begin to spread disgusting anecdotes about how he kills babies; ok, I do not know if Ron Paul’s supporters have ever done something like that, but while I was speaking as a precinct captain for Rick Perry for precinct Davenport 23, Iowa Caucus, one wouldn’t even believe if I told you the list of things the candidates have done; oh, I am digressing. Mitt Romney is a bad choice, he is now, and he always has been, and he always will be.

Rick Santorum is angry, and everyone knows it. Santorum truly believes he is the only person who can fix this country, and it shows. Despite all the help the evangelicals gave him, he was not able to hold the momentum, and I think it is because he comes off very high and mighty, and the last thing people want to hear is how much greater you are than the rest of humanity. Santorum has the voting record of a follower, and he does not even try to dispute this when talking to the media or the voters alike. He will tell you he endorsed Specter because this is what Republicans are supposed to do. That kind of wish washy stuff does not cut it. I see no pathway to victory for Rick Santorum, in fact he has become the best tool Mitt Romney has in his quest to stop Newt Gingrich.

Ron Paul is a huge supporter of the Tenth amendment, and that is good. Anybody that understands what James Madison attended to do when he first purposed the Tenth Amendment, and thinks it is the right thing to do is not all bad. The delegated powers to the federal government from the states, not the other way around, but so much time has passed since those days, that far too many people no longer fear the English Crown; therefore they no longer fear the federal government; so having Ron Paul running around talking about walls keeping us in has its place.  The problem with Paul is he does not understand that the country has enemies, and when he blames the United States for acts perpetrated by the 9/11 hijackers, no amount of Tenth Amendment is worth endangering the whole world with American isolationism.

Newt Gingrich, well a few weeks ago he was only above Ron Paul on my list. Why in the world would I support someone who was one of the biggest Washington insiders in the race? Despite the Freddie Mac connection, I feel Gingrich is the last chance to stick it to the Republican establishment that used the anger of small government conservatives to gain the Congress back. There is a huge risk involved with nominating Gingrich; he could be the next Reagan or he could self-destruct and send the whole party crashing. This is not the same as what we see with a Mitt Romney nomination, which would probably not even give us a chance to win.

Newt Gingrich has been egotistic much of his career, but no one else can so quickly point out the farcical attitude of the MSM, and despite all the empirical evidence that he run into huge trouble against president Obama; there is a chance he pulls off a complete comeback in a very Reagan like manner; he can reciprocate the liberal media in ways that Romney and Santorum just cannot do. This alone makes it worth the risk, considering the options.

When it comes to Gingrich’s baggage, well as a Christian I understand that God often uses some of the most flawed people to do great things in his name; Saul killed Christians at one time, say Jesus, became a follower, and became one of the greatest Christian advocates that have ever lived. No one knows if Gingrich can play this role, but I would not be surprised if he did. If this is the only message that people will one day remember from Newt there is some value to it.

I will honestly say, I do not think Newt Gingrich can beat President Obama, but I also once believed the Republican electorate cared more about substantial things like a record and the plan the candidates had; so I hope I am wrong. If we can beat the establishment, maybe they will learn to stop pushing candidates on people and allow the process to just play out. Mitt Romney is not even liked by his own party, he has no chance of beating Obama until he can gain that, and with each state that votes, the likelihood of that happening lessens; and that is a good thing I think.

No matter what happens, it should be an exciting ride; just wish the reelection of President Obama was not the price of failure.
