Permalink Reply by Doug Kolonia on October 25, 2011 at 1:31am I totally disagree with your post. I am a military person and understand the loss of lives very well and personally but Wesley Clark is literally an embarrassment to the military profession and he is not credible at all on these matters.
The fact is that indeed our actions in Iraq HAVE changed world history and no one, I repeat no one can say definitively that it is not for the better.
1) No one can say what Saddam Hussein might have done. But we do know now he can no longer threaten anyone because of our actions.
2) We know he had chemical weapons and used them. We know he wanted to get a nuclear weapon. We know for fact that Saddam himself stated that he wanted the world to think he had WMD to scare Iran and any other potential invaders.
3) Our military is a "far superior force" than they were before the Iraq campaign began. That fact can not be argued and if you try then you show that you don't know anything what makes a military strong.
4) General Clark would have no way of knowing if the decision was "made" to invade Iraq right after 9-11. If he says so then he is lying. That decision was made well above his pay grade and he would not have known. The decision was made after Congress voted to approve the action and the case was made to the UN after years of Saddam violating UN directives.
5) Before Obama took over the USA was viewed as a "true Superpower" that was feared and respected. Now, due to Obama and many others who want to tear down this country perhaps our "respect" factor has waned some but we still have the strongest (and battled tested) military in the world. And that is how it should be.
6) Again Clark shows his ignorance if he says we invaded Iraq for "no reason".
7) We never were "bogged down" in Iraq and Afghanistan. That is a total fallacy that liberals and anti-war people love to state when they have NO knowledge of the strength of our military force and what it is capable of.
8) Can anyone show any kind of proof that we "intended" to invade seven countries? There is no such proof and people that claim to have it are lying.
9) So is the world controlled by "Brilliant elitists" or "Freakin' morons"? Which one is it? Or is it both? Clark is in the "Freakin' morons" category and today is still upset that he was rejected in his Presidential bid.
10) War is hell. There is no doubt about that, but sometimes it is a necessary evil. War has always been part of human history and always will be.
No one can say we did not do the right thing by taking out Saddam simply because he is now gone and can not do anymore evil.
If the USA had taken out Hitler in 1936 what would you, Wesley Clark and the world have said then? Probably the same thing as you say now because no one knew how bad Hitler would actually become. It is the same with Iraq.
And there was no choice in the matter with Afghanistan. That had to be done.
The big question right now is "why in the world" are we totally leaving Iraq? It will go down as one of the stupidest decisions in American history. We sacrificed a lot of money and many, many lives of the finest souls this country has and now it was for nothing. We should have maintained a base there for many, many years and also paid ourselves back with oil.
We are leaving Iraq because they don't want us there anymore. So we killed thousands of civilians, destroyed many parts of their country because of what he might have done? We had all the right information though - our government told us so.
We are bogged down financially for sure. We are borrowing the money for these wars & it won't even be paid back by my great grandchildren. As far as proof that they wanted to invade 7 countries, how many are we in now? It may not be proof, but it is sure playing out that way. And now we are talking Iran because of what they might do. Look at Libya - we sure took care of them and who knows what evil will prop itself up there now. We continue to repeat history - when will we ever learn that our government has its own agendas and we are lied to over & over again.
If we are respected because we are feared, then that is not really respect - it is fear and others will want to destroy us for that very reason. Yes, war is hell & sometimes necessary, but who decides when it is necessary? It's Obama right now & before that Bush, along with the UN. Our wars have been boarderline illegal as well as unconstitutional. In some cases Obama has violated international law.
We may be on very different sides of the fence, as many others are, but even if it's somewhere in the middle, we have to stop this now. Our economy, our monetary system, cannot take anymore. If our economy collapses, we cannot do anything, for anyone. Then what?
