Our President must reside in the Twilight Zone.  That is the only possible explanation that I can think of.  So far in July, I've seen a commercial that actually promotes food stamps as a lifestyle choice that will help you lose weight, look great, and eat healthier.  We just got news yesterday that we've had the worst economic quarter in over 3 years, which is only truly understood in its proper economic perspective when you consider that the beginning of the single worst financial crisis since the great depression started 3 1/2 years ago.  That news, along with the dismal hiring report, was greeted by our President with a statement in Maumee Ohio that our economy has taken a step forward.  (Perhaps I am being unfair, maybe he meant forward off of a cliff.)  Then I read something today that made me really worried.

More workers joined the federal government's disability program in June than got new jobs, according to two new government reports, a clear indicator of how bleak the nation's jobs picture is after three full years of economic recovery.

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama's economic recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

So, the Obama boom, recovery summer, or what ever other rosy term you wish to bestow upon the carnage that Barack Obama has unleashed upon our nation's economic well being, has turned America into a nation of people who would rather feign permanent disability than attempt to find gainful employment. It's not that I blame these frustrated souls, they probably have families to feed, mortgages to pay, and a President who has told them that although they haven't been able to find work in 42 months, the private sector is humming along just swimmingly. While unemployment as it is reported in most of the media has been holding steady at 8.2%, which is disastrously bad, the more accurate number is the U6 number, which includes people who have dropped from the unemployment payment ranks, has increased to 14.9%. That means that 1 out of every 7 people you know, see, pass on the street, go to your kids band concerts with, family members, are out of work, and what's worse, they've been there for a good long while.

Signing up for disability when you are in fact capable of working is a sign of desperation. It is giving up on yourself, your family, and your nation. It is the opposite of hope, but it at least represents change.  In the veritable ton of empty platitudes that sometimes double as Obama Campaign slogans, Forward has been the latest used by Dear Leader.  I would just implore my fellow citizens to make certain that forward does not mean marching off of the veritable economic cliff.  What Barack Obama has taught us, if nothing else, is that change is not always good.  Hope and Change as a campaign slogan did not start with Barack Obama.  He shared that slogan with Adolf Hitler, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, and Jimmy Carter, just to name a few.

Just a couple of notes to correct his fantasy interpretation. Since January of 2009, 2.6 Million Americans have been hired into jobs that they had not been employed at previously. That number is dwarfed by the number of Americans who have lost jobs during the same time span, about 7.1 Million Americans. The universe of people in the labor participation force has also shrunk precipitously, and the labor participation rate is the lowest since before WWII. 3.1 Million people have feigned long term disability in order to receive incomes in lieu of work.

Growing up, I heard about Yankee ingenuity, the indomitable American spirit, how rugged Americans loved their independence and nothing could ever interfere with our desire to make our own paths in life. Take a good listen to this advertisement, and answer me honestly, are you proud that this is what your nation has become. If not, we can change it all back in November.
